Thrown and handbuilt stoneware from a small studio in Pinner, north-west London. Lessons for one or two people at a time, and holiday sessions for young makers.
The studio has one wheel and room for one or two people beside me, so every lesson is close to one-to-one. All clay, glazes and firing are included. Pieces are ready to collect about two weeks later.
Centre, open and raise your first pots on the wheel. Choose your favourite and I'll trim, glaze and fire it for you.
[YOUR PRICE]Throwing, trimming and glazing, at your own pace. Come alone or bring a friend. You leave with a small set of pots you made from start to finish.
[YOUR PRICE]Handbuilding for children and teenagers: pinch pots, textured tiles and little creatures, pressed with leaves, bark and lace. Enhanced DBS held.
[YOUR PRICE]A handbuilding session about touch. Press grasses, seed heads, lace and bark into clay, try slip and make a dish or a wall tile to keep.
[YOUR PRICE]I trained in pottery over three years at Harrow Art College, under a Japanese tutor whose way of working still shapes everything I make. Since then I've worked from my own studio in Pinner, with a wheel and a kiln, making stoneware and working in felt.
Most of what I make is about the senses: how a surface feels under your fingers, how light catches a glaze, the weight and warmth of a cup in your hands. I like teaching the same way. Less about rules, more about getting your hands in the clay.
I also work in a secondary school, so I'm used to young people and to keeping a room calm and safe.
Tell me which lesson you're interested in and a few days that suit you. I'll reply with dates. The studio is in Pinner, north-west London; I'll send the address when you book.
